Niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. and others to Explain Supreme Court Challenge to HHS Mandate
Washington, DC — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement this morning:
“Tomorrow morning at 11am at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, I will hold a press conference together with others on our Priests for Life team to explain what is at issue in our challenge to the HHS Mandate. The US Supreme Court has accepted the case of Priests for Life vs. HHS, along with six other similar cases.
“Along with Priests for Life as an organization, our case names as individual plaintiffs Dr. Alveda King (our Director of African-American Outreach), Janet Morana (our Executive Director) and me. We will all be there, along with our attorney David Yerushalmi, who, with Robert Muise, represent us in this case through the American Freedom Law Center.
“At the press conference, we will explain in clear terms what is at issue in this case. We want the public to understand why we refuse to sign a simple form which, after all, says that we want to opt-out of providing insurance coverage for morally objectionable services.
“And we will also draw a line in the sand. We have said already that we will not obey the mandate, even if the Court upholds it. At this press conference, we will issue a rallying cry for others to join with us, and will remind the public of how essential this case is to the religious freedom of all Americans.”
